The building of the resort was initiated on the 9th of June 2003 by its proprietor and seven Tanzanian staff.

Tinga Tinga Lodge is situated right over the Indian Ocean, and has a spectacularly located bar and restaurant perched on a hilltop overlooking the ocean. Its Rondavel style buildings add a pleasing rustic feel.
